Who's Who in X-Men? Part 2: Giant Size X-Men
Who's Who? is Comic Book Beginner's Info's very simple column where you can attach faces to the name (and/or names to the faces) with brief introductions. Think of it as Comic Book Flash Cards (no not that Flash!).
Please note that, in general, these are not complete lists because A. This page would take forever to load and B. You will more than likely learn the rest of the characters as you read through the books! These are just the main ones you are going to frequently encounter. :-)
With the X-Men To cover all of the key characters in one entry would take not only forever but would probably crash your browser. So, I have decided to cover this in separate parts.
Check out the previous parts:
Part 1: The Original X-Men.
In this edition, we are simply going to introduce the characters in Giant Size X-Men #1, the comic where the X-Men were reinvented into more of the team that the general public is familiar with. Instead of a vanilla team that they once were, X-Men were going international.
I am going to have to say that putting the summary of most of these particular X-Men characters is a little harder to do than the Original X-Men as the characters backstories, quirks, and overall dynamics is a a little more deep.
Be on the lookout for the next edition, where we are going to start with some of the spin-off teams!
So let us begin!
Logan aka James Howlette aka Wolverine
Wow? Where exactly do you begin with this guy when this is supposed to be just a summary paragraph? Well, let us start off with the basics, his powers are his ultra healing powers or "healing factor," heightened sense of smell, agility, reflexes, and strength... plus he has skeleton laced with an unbreakable metal called adamantium, which his skeletal structure to begin with has retractable claws.
From Canada, Wolverine is perhaps the most popular X-Man due to his rather tortured and uncertain past and tough guy attitude who still has a big heart. He doesn't like to follow authority. Due to experiments on him, his memory had been wiped for quite some time. Really, this summary just doesn't do Wolverine justice. I guess I will cover this more in an eventual "all Wolverine edition" of Who's Who in X-Men?

Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler
From Germany, the amazing Nightcrawler has the ability to both stick onto walls and teleport. While monster-like in appearance, he is both very charming and romantic with the ladies and is also very compassionate and religious man at heart.

John Proudstar aka Thunderbird
From the Apache Tribe, Thunderbird has heightened abilities of strength, speed, stamina, and sturdiness. He is perhaps best known as "that guy who died within a couple of issues."

Shiro Yoshida aka Sunfire
Sunfire has radiation powers due his mother having radiation poisoning when giving birth to him from the Hiroshima Atomic bomb that the US dropped on them during World War II.
As a result, he has resented the United States for much of his life. He joined up to rescue the X-Men from Kroaka, but then decided to leave before he could become an official member. He has sense made a few appearances, and generally has either been kidnapped and brainwashed or tricked into joining various bad guys.

Sean Cassidy aka Banshee
From Ireland, Banshee has the power to scream out sonic energy which can
range anywhere from either stunning his opening to injuring his opponent.

Piotr Rasputin aka Colossus
Everybody's favorite Russian, Collosus, has the ability to transform his body into "organic steel," which gives him super strength and super durability. Collosus has suffered much heartache in his life, losing his land, country, family, and even some of his friends.
He was a martyr during the Legacy Virus where he killed himself to save every mutant on Earth. He is also best known for his romantic relationship with Kitty Pryde, but they could not act on their desires for a long long time due to the age difference.

Ororo Munroe aka Storm
From African, Storm has the ability to manipulate and control the weather, which also gives her the ability to fly. Storm has lead a quite a life where she was an orphan who first started off as a thief when she was a child, then was treated as a goddess by the region known as Serengeti as a young woman.
She was latered recruited as a member of the X-Men by Professor Xavier, and is generally the second in command right behind Cyclops.
